LAMTA Spring Video Recital #1

We've received a lot of feedback from our members about wanting more performance opportunities for students. In response, we're going to offer monthly Virtual Youtube Recitals through LAMTA. Virtual recitals will never be able to replace the fun and excitement of a live performance, but this is a way to give students an opportunity to perform, something to look forward to and a way that we can give back to our community through music.

Directions: Every student should submitting a video recording of their performance. Students may simply use their phones to record but feel free to use cameras or any other devices that work best for you.

Memorization is recommended but not required. Please have students bow to the camera after their performance just like our normal LAMTA recitals.

Playing for Paws
Sep

Playing for Paws

Playing for Paws is a community music event founded by LAMTA member, Jamie Bone. For this event, piano students from all over the area play music on Massachusetts street in Downtown Lawrence in a busker setting. Lawrence citizens make donations to the Lawrence Humane Society during the performances. Meanwhile, Humane Society volunteers bring dogs up for adoption to the site and allow citizens and performers to pet them and play with them (optional). It's a great opportunity for young pianists to perform in a different setting while serving the community at the same time.

A few notes:

  • There is no fee to participate.
  • Teachers are not required to be present while their students perform (although it is recommended).
  • We are performing outdoors. Wind and sheet music do not work well together. So memorization is recommended, but not required.
  • If rain should happen, our backup date will be September 29th.

Teachers, simply tell your students about the event and find out how many of them want to participate. As soon as possible, but no later than September 8th, please notify Jamie (jamie0168@hotmail.com) with the following information:

  • How many students will be participating? (If you're unsure, give an estimate.)
  • How long of a time window do you want for your students and their music in the schedule? (20 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, etc.)
  • Do you have any time preferences/constraints for your place on the schedule? (Remember, Jamie is fitting a lot of people into one day of music, so don't be pickier than you have to be.)

Please contact Jamie with any other questions, and be sure to spread the word in support of our students and the Lawrence Humane Society!
